Anti-Social Behaviour

Reporting anti-social behaviour

Gedling Homes recognises the impact of crime and anti-social behaviour on residents and communities. As an organisation we are committed to taking the lead and playing an active role in developing strategies and actions for tackling and preventing anti-social behaviour.

Reporting anti-social behaviour

The list below provides some examples of what may constitute anti-social behaviour, but it is not exhaustive and there may be other forms of behaviour which could be considered as anti-social.

  • noise

  • using or threatening to use violence

  • criminal behaviour

  • intimidation

  • verbal abuse

  • harassment including racial harassment

  • abandoned vehicles

  • fly tipping and littering

  • graffiti and vandalism, (inc. damage to property)

  • supply and / or cultivation of drugs

  • doing anything that may or does interfere with the peace, comfort or convenience of other people or causes offence to them

  • dog fouling and failing to control any pet

  • insulting behaviour or language

What should you do if you experience anti-social behaviour from a neighbour?

Speak with your neighbour explaining how their behaviour affects you and suggest a compromise. Make a note of any conversations you have with your neighbour and keep copies of any correspondence you may have with them.

If things do not improve then ring us on 0115 9051515 and ask to speak to our Gedling Homes Neighbourhoods Team. We will be able to talk to you about what further steps can be taken to resolve the situation.

We also have a 24 hour number 0808 145 6555 where you can leave a message which will be responded to in office hours the following working day.

What will happen if you report anti-social behaviour from your neighbour?

An officer of Gedling Homes will discuss the matter fully with you, with any witnesses and with the person who is causing the problem in order to try and resolve the matter before it gets worse. We may ask you to keep a written record of any further incidents and we will supply you with Diary Record sheets in this case. This may help if the situation cannot be resolved easily, as these records show the history of incidents. It is therefore very important that the records you keep are as complete and accurate as possible. You can download copies of Diary Record forms by following this link. We also have some guidance notes to help you when completing these forms.

There are a number of possible outcomes from these discussions:
  • mediation
  • counselling
  • witness support
  • specialist support/intervention

Any of these may be used to try and resolve the problem.

What if the problems continue?

Gedling Homes has a number of options available to encourage the perpetrators to change their behaviour.

These currently include:

  • injunctions
  • Demoted Tenancy proceedings
  • eviction
  • criminal prosecution

Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and Anti-Social Behaviour Orders are under review by the government and new initiatives are proposed.

Evidence you provide on the Diary Record sheets will enable Gedling Homes to take enforcement action. If you are required to go to court to give evidence in person we will discuss it fully with you first and will not start action without your consent. If you agree to go to court we will offer you support in preparing your statement and attending any hearing.

What will happen after enforcement action has been taken?

The situation will continue to be monitored until you are satisfied that the problem has stopped and the case will then be closed. We will carry out a post-case review with you to assess your level of satisfaction with our service and to identify any areas for improvement.

If you have any other questions about anti-social behaviour please ring us on 0115 9051515 and ask for our Gedling Homes Neighbourhoods Team or e-mail us at enquiries@gedlinghomes.co.uk.
