Community Chest

What is the Community Chest?

Each year Gedling Homes release a pot of money for tenants to spend – this is called the Community Chest.

This money is available for tenants to spend on projects which will benefit the communities in which they live. These projects can be anything which a tenant or group of tenants would like to see in their area, for example
  • Physical works, such as improvements to the communal parts or lighting.
  • Grants for community initiatives, such as to start a community group or support an existing group.
  • Environmental works, such as improvements to a communal garden.
How do I apply?

If you have an idea for a community project which will benefit your area then all you need to do is complete an application giving us details about your project. You should supply as much information as possible, particularly about why you think it will benefit your community. Click here to download the application form.

How much is available?

A maximum grant of £5,000 is available for successful applications, although the grant can be as small as necessary. So even if you require a small pot of money to benefit your community then this is the pot of money for you.

How do I know how much my idea will cost?

If the project you have submitted is in relation to physical or environmental improvements then a member of the Gedling Homes Investment team will work out the cost of the project. If your project involves a grant for a community initiative then you will be expected to provide information on how much it will cost.

How will I know whether my application has been successful?

All completed applications will be considered by the Gedling Homes Community Chest Panel. This panel comprises
  • two tenant representatives
  • a member of the Customer Experience team
  • a member of the Neighbourhoods team
  • a member of the Investment team

The panel will meet every two months and look at all applications received in that period. In considering whether the project will receive money from the Community Chest, the panel will look at a number of factors, such as if the improvements will benefit the community as a whole, if the project is sustainable and if there are ongoing maintenance costs.

All applicants will receive written confirmation of whether their application has been successful within 14 days of the panel’s decision.
