Gedling Homes is required by law to carry out an annual gas safety check on all gas
appliances and flues in your home. If we are not able to get in we will need to
take legal action to gain access and you would be charged legal costs for this and
you are also at risk of losing your home. We do not want to do this so please ensure that you are available to let our contractor in.
We are responsible for the following:
making sure gas appliances and flues are maintained in a safe condition
making sure yearly maintenance and safety checks are carried out on or before the 12 month anniversary of the last gas service
making sure we keep records and issue these to our customers
making sure that all installation, maintenance and safety checks are carried out by a qualified engineer
You must allow us into your home to carry out this gas appliance service to protect you, your family and your neighbours
Faulty gas appliances, which are not regularly maintained, can become dangerous and can give off carbon monoxide, known as CO. You cannot see, taste or smell this gas, but it can kill you within a matter of hours. There are more than 50 deaths a year as a result of CO poisoning from gas appliances. For your own safety you should not sleep in a room containing a gas appliance.
We will service your gas heating system every year to check that it is operating efficiently and safely. This service is very important and we will inform you when your service is due and make an appointment to carry this out. You must arrange to be in to allow the service to be carried out.
The do’s and don'ts of gas servicing

allow our contractor access to service your gas appliances each year
be aware of danger signs such as
sooting or stain marks on or around the appliance
a yellow or orange lazy flame where they are normally crisp and blue
condensation in the room where the appliance is installed
Don’t
paint your boiler or gas fire – this may cause toxic fumes to be given off
block air vents – some gas appliances need the airflow to operate safely
carry out DIY work on gas appliances
What should I do if I smell gas?
immediately turn off your gas supply at the meter
