Lifeline community alarms

What is Lifeline?
Many older people want to retain their independence and enjoy the comforts of their own home, but there is always the worry that living alone could mean living at risk. The Lifeline service provided by Gedling Homes enables you to summon help or seek reassurance instantly, in an emergency, whenever you need it, wherever you are in your home.

Who can use the Service?
Lifeline users are from all walks of life. You don’t have to be one of our tenants to use the service; it is also available to owner occupiers and those in private rented accommodation who live within the Gedling Borough area.

What equipment do I need?
We will provide you with a Lifeline telephone unit which links you to Nottingham On Call Response Centre.
All you need is a phone line with a phone socket close to a 13 amp electric plug socket.

How does it work?
To call for help you need to press the red, call response centre button on your pendant or your Lifeline base unit. From this it is possible to identify who you are, where you live and the friends, relatives or neighbours you would like contacting in an emergency. Built into the Lifeline base unit is a sensitive microphone and powerful loudspeaker so that, wherever you are in your home, you can speak with an advisor until assistance arrives.

The Lifeline base unit attaches to your existing telephone. Its special features include a volume control and push-button dialling. It even has a device in the unit which makes conversation much clearer for those who wear hearing aids. You can use your Lifeline at any time of the day or night, every day of the year. If it is an emergency, help will be sent to you as quickly as possible and your relatives will be informed too.

Is there a charge for the service?
There is a daily charge for the Lifeline service and you will be billed each quarter for this.
