How is Gedling Homes monitored?


Gedling Homes is monitored in several ways.


1/ By the Tenant Services Authority

In December 2008, the Tenant Services Authority replaced the Housing Corporation as the Government agency responsible for regulating and supervising Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) in England. It sets a Regulatory Code to make sure that RSLs deliver a high class housing service openly, fairly and without discriminating against anyone. If Gedling Homes does not meet the requirements of the Code, the Tenant Services Authority has wide powers to step in and supervise if necessary. Amongst other things, the Regulatory Code means that RSLs must give their tenants and applicants more rights than the law demands.

The regulation is effective in protecting tenants. No tenant has ever lost his or her home because of the performance failure or bankruptcy of an RSL.



2/ By the Housing Inspectorate

The Housing Inspectorate is part of the Government’s Audit Commission. It inspects the services RSLs such as Gedling Homes provide to their tenants. It carries out regular visits and inspections of Gedling Homes and the results of these inspections will be published. The Housing Inspectorate works very closely with the Housing Corporation.

In this way, the Housing Corporation ensures that Gedling Homes is delivering a high quality housing service and is properly managed on a sound financial basis.



3/ External Auditors

The finances of Gedling Homes are monitored by external auditors. This ensures that there are safeguards in place to prevent Gedling Homes getting into financial difficulties.


4/ Gedling Borough Council

The Council has a formal contract with Gedling Homes and closely monitors compliance with this contract.


5/ Board of Management


Gedling Homes’ Board of Management receive regular monitoring reports


6/ By the Group

Being part of an existing housing group means the group as a whole work closely with Gedling Homes to ensure that it is performing to a high standard.
