Adaptations
We want all of our residents to enjoy the comfort of their own home and maintain as much independence as possible. If you or a member of your family is finding it difficult to get into your home or move about freely inside we may be able to offer help.
You may have a disability or be recovering from a stay in hospital. If so, we may be able to fit aids and adaptations in your home which will let you remain independent.
We will ask for confirmation of the adaptation needs from an occupational therapist. Nottinghamshire County Council Occupational Therapy Department arrange to carry out assessments and if the work is agreed we will prioritise claims according to need and urgency.
Minor adaptations
These range from grab rails to sliding doors, enabling residents to move more freely around their property minimising their need for assistance.
Major adaptations
These include stair lifts, adapted bathrooms and kitchens, external handrails and ramps. In rare and extreme circumstances extensions to properties are also considered where other suitable accommodation cannot be found.
The adaptations budget will be spread across the financial year to ensure that funding is targeted at those in the highest need, for example those tenants who cannot be released from hospital until their property has been adapted or suitable alternative accommodation found for them.
Locating more suitable accommodation
Gedling Homes has many properties which are already fully or partially adapted that may be more suitable to meet your needs. If a property is available this may be offered as an alternative to adaptation work.
