Paying Your Rent
There are a number of ways to pay your rent to Gedling Homes:
Changes in Your Rent
We will write to inform you of any changes to your rent, detailing
the revised rent figure and the reasons for the change. We will
give you four weeks notice of any changes in the amount of rent
due. If you are claiming Housing Benefit, the Council’s Benefit
Section should inform you of your benefit entitlement and any changes
in the benefit payment.
Claiming Housing Benefit
If you are on a low income you may be entitled to help
towards your rent payments.
If you think you may qualify and want to receive a Housing Benefit

Calculate your Benefits Entitlements
Gedling Homes is part of the New Charter Housing Trust Group. New Charter Housing Trust Group has a Welfare Benefits Advice section that can help and advise Gedling Homes customers on their entitlement to welfare benefits and assist in the completion of the application.

clicking here. You need to have all you income details with you to complete it properly. The service will give you an idea of the amount of welfare benefit you may be entitled to.
It is important that if your circumstances change that you repeat the calculation and you advise the agencies dealing with your claim. This could be the Housing Benefit Section at the Council or the Inland Revenues for Tax Credit purposes, or any other agency who pays you any benefit.

Difficulty in paying your rent
It is a condition of your Tenancy Agreement that your rent and any
other tenancy charges must be paid as they become due.
Rent Control Officers review the rent accounts every week, and will
take action against anyone who persistently fails to pay their rent
or contact us. If your rent account falls into arrears we will
contact you to discuss this with you.
We understand that everyone can experience financial difficulties
on occasion, and if you are struggling to pay your rent, it is very
important to contact the Rents Team immediately on 0115 9051545 or
email enquiries@gedlinghomes.co.uk. The sooner we are aware that you have problems
the easier it is for us to help.

If you have any worries about not being able to pay your rent,
it is very important to contact us as soon as possible. We have
lots of ways in which we can help people with rent payments,
some of which you might not know about until you discuss your

This card allows customers to pay at any outlets which display the PostOffice, PayPoint, and/or PayZone signs.

Renting a Garage
Gedling Homes has a number of garages which are available to rent and which are spread throughout the borough. We operate a waiting list for these garages and the length of time you may be expected to wait for one to become empty varies from each location.

The garage rental charges are as follows:
Gedling Homes(GH) tenants £6.16 per week as of 1st April 2008
Non GH tenants £7.24 per week as of 1st April 2008
Walton Court Garages(additional security supplied)
GH tenants £7.35 per week as of 1st April 2008
Non GH tenants £8.64 per week as of 1st April 2008
Terms and Conditions
Garages are let for the purpose of garaging a motor vehicle only. A garage must not be used for any other purposes. Applicants will be requested to produce their Vehicle Registration Document V5 when signing the tenancy agreement.
Materials that can catch fire easily must not be stored in garages.
You cannot keep fuel or gas bottles in a garage.
It is a condition of your tenancy that your garage rent must be paid as it becomes due. If your garage rent account falls into arrears we will contact you to discuss this with you to offer solutions to the arrears. Failure to keep your account clear could result in you losing possession of the garage.

Home Contents Insurance Scheme
When tenants move into one of our property’s their furniture, belongings and decoration are not protected against fire, theft, vandalism or burst pipes so it is very important to take out a home contents insurance.
To assist our tenants we have negotiated insurance cover with Norwich Union and any of our tenants can apply to join this scheme.
