Gedling tenants enjoy tasty Big Soup share

Tenants from Gedling Homes Bourne Mews allotment in Netherfield recently enjoyed some rewards for their hard work with a special lunch as part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s annual ‘Big Soup Share’. The event was held at the St George’s Centre in Netherfield. Our Neighbourhood Engagement team organised and sponsored  the event in conjunction with the St George’s Centre.

The tenants won the prize for best vegetable garden at Gedling Borough Council’s annual Garden Awards competition which was held in Netherfield and Colwick in July 2019.

Two large pans of healthy, flavorsome soup with home-made Irish soda bread cooked especially for the event were enjoyed in the centre café.  Tasty recipes for budding chefs to try are also listed on the site

Nearly forty people attended the lunch with other local volunteers invited, too. The aim of the event is for schools and community groups across the UK to celebrate the work they do in their gardens and the delicious soups they share with others.

The RHS Campaign for School Gardening 2019 is now closed but you can register your interest for 2020 here
